Thursday, Nov. 19
It was my pleasure to speak to J. Jackson of Apologetix this morning, about their new CD "Recovery".
Here's our conversation:

Monday, Nov. 16 -
I spent this past weekend at a youth event - so I'm very tired, but it's a good tired!
We got to hear a new band called Satellites and Sirens, they recently signed a contract with Word Records, so I'm sure you'll be hearing a lot more from them very soon.   Check out our facebook page for some pictures of them in action.

Thursday, Nov. 12th - Happy Birthday to Billy Rodgers & Clint Hudson!
I went to the Mike Huckabee book signing yesterday, and here is my full report:

Wednesday, Nov. 11th - Happy Veteran's Day - Thank God & our veterans for our freedom!
I got the chance to speak to Mike Huckabee (former Arkansas Governor & Presidential Candidate) about his book-signing event today at Books-A-Million in Paducah.  He'll be signing his new Christmas Book from 4:30-5:30pm.  Here is our brief talk:

Thanks to LaShea Wyatt for coming in to visit, and share about the Multiple Schlerosis group she leads.  They have a couple of events coming up very soon!  Here is our conversation:

Monday, Nov. 2
We had a wild weekend at our house - We took Colin to the ER on Saturday morning about 5am - he was really working hard to breathe!  As it turns out, he was having an asthma attack (first diagnosed one).  He's wheezed a few times, but Benadryl usually knocked it out.  Now we have inhalers to carry around with us along with everything else.  But we are grateful that we know what caused it and how to treat it.  It was a stressful morning.  By Sunday, he was pretty much over it.  Thanks to the Lord!

Tuesday, Oct. 20 -
Thanks to Sarina for calling in today to talk on the air about Operation Christmas Child.  Sarina is originally from Romania, and she received a shoebox gift for Christmas shortly after communism ended in Romania.  Now she is a teacher who lives in the U.S. and participates in Operation Christmas Child every year with her class.  Shoeboxes are collected this year from November 16-23 at locations everywhere.  Visit this website for lots more information.  Here's my conversation with Sarina:

Monday, Oct. 19 - Happy Birthday to my sister, Jennifer, her birthday was Saturday!
Colin made it through the entire weekend without wetting his pants.  Our potty-training adventure continues - and I am thankful for the Fisher-Price "Potty to Go" that Jennie bought about a year ago.  It was a lifesaver!  It folds and fits in a sling-type bag that resembles a diaper bag, and when Colin needed to go, we just went into the handicap stall and set it up.  He's a little frightened of falling into the big potty, so this was perfect. However, I think that he's figured out that he gets a treat EVERY time he goes potty, so now he's making multiple trips.  I'm pretty sure the rules are gonna change today...
--BH

Thursday, October 15th - Happy Birthday to Dorothy Holt, she's 49 today!
Day 2 of Potty Training update:  Lightning McQueen stayed dry for several hours last night, until the pull-up was put on Colin for bedtime.  He went #1 in the potty once, and there were a couple of accidents (Jennie blames herself for not getting him to the potty on schedule). He's cooperating really well and even acts excited about trips to the bathroom.  He told me last night,"Daddy, I'll be right back!"

thanks for listening today, everyone- I hope you have a great day!
 --Bill

Wednesday, October 14th - Happy Birthday Daniel Cook, & Happy Anniversary Kim & Chris Winn!!
Colin's first day of Potty training went OK, I guess, a couple of accidents (one while asleep-not his fault), and at least one successful "trip" (you KNOW what I mean!).  He was excited to put on his underwear today, so we'll see how day 2 progresses.  Kudos to my lovely wife Jennie, who's orchestrating all of this.

Thanks to Dr. Patrick Withrow and Chaplain James Wright of Western Baptist Hospital for visiting our studios today, to share about the Addiction & Compulsive Behaviors Symposium on Oct. 24 (9am-3:30pm) at the Heart Center Auditorium.  It's for doctors, nurses, therapists, counselors, social workers, pastors, and anyone who can impact a person who's stuggling.  Cost for the symposium is $30, lunch is provided, and CME's are available for healthcare professionals. To reserve your seat, call 270-575-2723 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Tuesday, October 13th -
Busy day today, lots of things to do, not to mention the fact that we're painting our offices this week!
Thanks to Chris from Life Church of Marion, IL (and soon - Paducah, KY) for coming in and visiting today.  They are kicking off their ministry to West KY with a concert featuring Christy Nockels, Charmaine, and the Life Church Band this Saturday night at 7pm, at the Carson Center in Paducah.  Their first worship service in Paducah is Sunday night at the Paducah Expo Center at 6pm.  There will be contemporary worship, kid worship, small groups, and more.

My son, Colin put on UNDERWEAR this morning!  Jennie is going to try to Potty-train him this week, while she has a few days off.  I get him over the weekend while she's at work.  This should be interesting.  But he REALLY wants to wear his "Thomas the Tank Engine" and "Lightning McQueen" underwear.  And every successful attempt earns him a sticker and a treat.  We're concentrating on the immediate task at hand, but at the same time saying to each other, "He's getting so big!"  (He's 3 now)
Any potty training tips?  Tell me by This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
Have a great day,
 --Bill

Wednesday, October 7th - Happy Birthday Abby Sullivan, Chris Kinsel, & Michael W. Smith !
Thanks to everyone who came to the "America's Godly Heritage" event last night at the Carson Center.  It was a wonderful evening of history, information, and music from David Barton & Eric Horner !  Everyone I have spoken with walked away saying, "Wow!  I've not heard that before."  I encourage all of you to find out more about our nation's first leaders and their lives of faith.  Click David Barton's link for more info.
 --Bill

Friday, Sept. 18 -
Thanks to Pastors Mike Rothwell and Brad Henson from Four Rivers Covenant Church, they visited the studios today to talk about Community Ministries (their food & clothing outreach that has really expanded in the tight economy of 2009).  If you are interested in joining God in what He is already doing, join others from all over the area who are part of this ministry.  They are feeding lunch to dozens and dozens of people every day, and they need help serving, cooking, and paying for the meals they provide.  Here is our conversation:

Tuesday, Sept. 15 -
I'm back from vacation, and I need a nap!  We got home Sunday night from Gatlinburg, and immediately had to be at church.  I've not stopped since then!  So, welcome back to me!  I missed being with you while I was gone, but I also LOVED seeing the Smoky Mountains and spending a whole week with my wife and son.  Time to get busy again!  Have a great day,
--Bill

Wednesday, Sept. 2
Today is "catch-up" day for me, I have a few things that I've put off that need attention, and this is definitely the day with the least number of daily tasks.  So I better get to it!
Thanks to Rev. Michael Durham for visiting today, he and Glen Dunkerson shared about the "Real Truth Matters" conference on Sat. September 12, beginning at 10am at the River Room of the Carson Four Rivers Center in Paducah.  For more information, or to reserve your seat at this FREE event, visit www.realtruthmatters.com.  Here's our conversation from this morning:

Monday, August 31st -
I hope your weekend went well.  I got to spend Saturday with Jennie & Colin, and Sunday with Colin (Jennie had to work).  We had a wonderful worship service at church, and I had the evening "off" from church because of a special event.  Good thing, too- Colin took a very long nap, I'm not sure I would have made it on time!
Thanks to everyone who has been praying for my wife's family after her Granny died last week.  They were prepared for it, I guess, and they have coped quite well.
Have a good week!
-Bill

Wednesday, August 26th
I'd like to ask for prayer for my wife, Jennie and my father-in-law, Doug.  His mother, Martha Draffen (Jennie's Granny) died this morning.  She had a couple of strokes within the last month, and the last one left her non-responsive.  Pray for the family as they grieve, we'd appreciate it.
--bill

Thanks to Craig Felker, lead singer of the band HEARTS OF SAINTS for visiting today, and sharing about the band's latest news (signing a deal with a record label, possible fall tour, shows in the area this weekend).  Here is our conversation in 2 parts:
Part one, includes the song "Over and Over"
Part two, includes the song "Breakdown"

Friday, August 21st
I'm gonna be busy today and tomorrow.  I'll be doing production to get everything ready for the Heath Pirates' first football game tonight on WGCF.  Then I'm driving a vanload of people to the airport, so they can fly to Honduras for a mission trip.  Consequently, I'll probably lose some sleep tomorrow, but it will be OK.  Saturday night is the Jeremy Camp concert at the Carson Four Rivers Center (7:30).  Last I heard, there are still tickets.  I hope to see you there!  Have a great weekend, everyone!
-bill

Wednesday, August 19th -
My wife and I are both "Pilers".  We put things in piles in certain spots of the house (maybe you do this on a table or counter or desk).  So we have begun to attack these spots this week, and I am pleased with the progress we've made.  I am the worst offender, so I have attacked my probelem area - our home office.  I can actually see the floor!  WooHoo!  Now if we can find the desk that's covered with CDs, we'll be OK.  CDs....wonder where those keep coming from?

-Bill

Tuesday, August 18th -
Thanks so much to PIZZA INN for allowing us to have a Dough-Raiser last night, and thanks to many of you for coming and supporting us!  We raised money that will be used to promote the stations in the coming months, and meet some of our needs as well.  We had fun talking to you and serving you!
I would also like to thank Dr. Patrick Withrow from Western Baptist Hospital for visiting the station this morning to talk about how addictive smoking is.  There is a FREE seminar at Western Baptist this Saturday from 9-4 at the Heart Center Auditorium with world-class speakers giving information that health care professionals and influential people can use to help others stop smoking.  To register (by Friday) call 270-575-2723.  Here is the audio from our conversation:

Monday, August 17th - Happy Birthday to Kevin Max, and Daniel Biro of Hawk Nelson!
Here is a "first thing in the morning" picture of Colin from Saturday - he was sitting in his bed with all of his "new" underwear spread around him,. (not yet potty-trained) He had his Lightning McQueen undies wrapped around his torso. He had put his head and both arms thru the legn holes. He looked up and said "Daddy, I'm stuck."  I ran and got my camera.
 Colin tried on his underwear....incorrectly!
Sorry about the nasal discharge; I was laughing, taking pictures and trying to get him out, I didn't notice!

Thanks to Heath High School Football Head Coach Cory Tilford for visiting the studios today.  "Meet the Pirates" is tonight at the football stadium in West Paducah at 7pm, and the first game of the season is this Friday at Webster County.  Follow all of the Gridiron action on our sister station, WGCF 89.3FM.  Here is our conversation about the upcoming season:

Don't forget our DOUGH-RAISER tonight at Pizza Inn on Joe Clifton Drive in Paducah, from 4-8pm.  We'll be waiting tables, and WBEL/WGCF gets all of the tips and 15% of the buffet proceeds.  Come see us!
--Bill

Thursday, August 13th - Happy Left-hander's Day to my wife Jennie, my mom, and you (if you qualify)!
Thanks to my guest this morning, Pam Sloane of the KY Delta Rural Project, serving the western-most part of the state.  They help educate kids about good eating habits, personal safety, drug abuse prevention, online safety, and a whole lot more.  If you would like for Pam to speak to a group at your church or meeting, you can reach her at    270-836-9417, or by email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Here' is our conversation, in 2 parts:

Tuesday, August 11th-
I hope you're having a good day, and that the storms stay away from you this afternoon (unless you need the rain).
I'm hoping to mow my lawn this afternoon, but I also have some errands to run....hmmm....how's it gonna end??  I'll let you know tomorrow!   Thanks to my friends Jodi & Stoney Douthitt, for coming in today to talk about their mission trip to Honduras in a couple of weeks.  For more information, or to support their work, call Stoney at 908-839-7693 or visit www.totalhealth.org.  Here is our conversation:

Monday, August 10th -
I had a pretty good weekend, what about you?  There were some things I didn't get done, but that happens every week...I was planning to go to the John Reuben/Hearts of Saints concert on Saturday, but Jennie and I ended up at the hospital with her Grandmother.  It's apparent that she had a stroke, so we helped Jennie's Dad with the constant stream of confused questions that Granny was asking.  Please pray for Granny, that  she'll be able to get up and around again, and that her thought process will clear up, OK?  Thanks!
Today is the final weigh-in for Please Don't Feed the DJs, I'm looking forward to finding out who wins!  One of our three teams will be declared champions, and someone from their cheering section will win a 3-month membership to Go Performance & Fitness of Paducah!  You can still sign up here, and be included in the giveaway!

Monday, August 3rd
Thanks to everyone who came up and said "Hi!" at the live remote we did at Lifeway Christian Stores in Paducah on Saturday!  It was good to see all of you, and to see Bob & Larry from Veggietales, too!
It finally happened:  Someone walked up to check on Jennie & I while we ate lunch on Saturday, and asked if the was healthy enough for "Please Don't Feed the DeeJays".  Actually, it probably wasn't, so we were caught, I guess!  Anyway, it's nice to know that we're being heard, and encouraging people to thnk about their own food choices and exercise habits.  And yes, it was quite tasty - thanks for asking!
Bowling was great fun last night at Bob's in Metropolis.  I think everybody had a good time, we're even talking about doing this together on a regular basis!  During our first game of the competition, I actually rolled a TURKEY (that's 3 strikes in a row).  Wow, I don't think I've ever done that before.  I ended up with a score of 150.  Pretty good, considering it's been over a year since I last bowled.  Jennie and I ended up winning the contest.  WooHoo!  That means someone from our cheering section wins, too!
Visit the Please Don't Feed the DeeJays page for more information.

Friday, July 31st -
A word to all of our friends in youth ministry, and to parents: The events in Kevil yesterday involving young people who were using drugs and mushrooms, and the susequent death of one who broke into a home he thought was his own, are an opportunity to discuss these issues with your kids.  Even in your own neighborhood, with friends, & when you aren't driving, when you experiment and get "out of yourself", it is dangerous!  The choices we make have consequences that we might not even imagine.  My prayer for all of us is that we have wisdom from the Holy Spirit, and that we make GOOD choices that have a positive impact now, and for all eternity.  May the Lord bless the family that grieves, the families that don't know their children's future in all of this, and the family whose home was invaded.
Here is my commentary from this morning on this news story:
Have a good weekend, everyone,
BH

Thursday, July 30th -
I think there is a disconnect between my brain and my muscles today!  Wow, the "Fight Gone Bad" lived up to its name!  All of us are pretty worn out today, and very sore.  I wish I had gotten to watch my wife Jennie, but I was quite busy at the time, trying to keep my heart from jumping out of my chest, and hoping my thigh muscles wouldn't explode!  Wow, what a way to prove to someone that they're out of shape....  Thanks to Scott & Laurie, and everyone else who helped last night!

Also, thanks to Laura Roberts of Starfish Orphan Ministry for talking with me this morning.  She described what Stacey Davis, and Melissa & Andy Burch will be doing in Tanzania, Africa for the next 2 weeks.  They left this morning.  Pray for their trip, and for the children they'll be reaching while they are there!

Wednesday, July 29th - Join us tonight at Go Performance for "FIGHT GONE BAD", at 6pm.
Ten things we can learn from Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang:

1. It's okay to be afraid... just don't let your fears control you.  Charlie Brown often sat in bed and spoke of his fears, but no matter how scared he was, he always did the things he wanted to do.

2. Persistence wins out.  Charlie Brown often lost, failed at much, but he never gave up. Even though he knew Lucy was going to pull the football away before he could kick it.... Even though he knew the tree was going to eat his kite... Even though he knew his team would lose the ball game, he kept on trying.
3. It's what you think of yourself that matters most.  Linus carried a security blanket for years and his friends laughed at him. They also laughed at him because he believed in the 'Great Pumpkin.' Pigpen was a walking cloud of dust and dirt and was often regarded unkindly. Both characters, however, were always proud of themselves and believed they were as good as anybody else -- and they were right

4. Sometimes you need to talk.  One thing the 'Peanuts' gang understood was the importance of talking things out. Whether leaning up against Schroeder's piano or atop the brick wall, they always had someplace to discuss what was of concern to them.

5. Sometimes you need to listen.  Even crabby, self-indulged Lucy knew the importance of listening. She started the famous 'Psychiatry Booth' where any and all could come and be heard.

6. Do what you love to do. Through all their adventures, Schroeder remained constant in his appreciation of Beethoven and his love of playing the piano. He loved to play piano and that's what he did, regardless of the circumstances. Charlie Brown flew his kite, played baseball and football, not just to win (he knew he wouldn't), but because he loved to do those things.

7. It's important to have friends that care. The 'Peanuts' gang was made up of individual characters, each with their own foibles and talents, but through it all they were always there for each other.

8. Big dreams lead to big things! Snoopy was the biggest dreamer of them all, but his wild imagination often led to even wilder, more fantastic adventures in real life. Snoopy knew that you must have a big dream if you are going to lead a big life.

9. Action creates reality.  As Charlie Brown was reminded time and again after prodding from Linus: it takes action to bring about change. Though he often failed, Chuck took action quite regularly... and every now and again things would go his way.

10. Laugh every day!  While the kids themselves may not have seen the humor in the things they did, Schulz made sure that *we* did. Life is only as serious or as humorous as YOU make it... Lighten up. Go play softball. Fly a kite.   Dance with your dog. Smile... it makes people wonder what you're up to.

Monday, July 27th - Happy birthday to my OLDER sister, Jill!
I had a good weekend:  1.  spent alot of quality time with Colin.  2.  Visited Lifeway Christian Store and met Julie Lessman, the author I interviewed last week (see below).  3.  Got some preparation done for our church's Christmas Cantata.  4.  Mowed the grass.  5.  Attended two great worship services at church.  6.  Snuck in a nap on both Saturday and Sunday!   I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

By the way, congratulations to my oldest sister Carol, she just got engaged!  WooHoo!

Friday, July 24th -
Thanks to Rick Dickey for stopping by and spending some time with me on the air.  I'm glad he had "some spare time".  Also, a big thanks to Julie Lessman of St. Louis, MO for the interview today.  She's an author of modern-style inspirational romantic historical fiction (now, THAT's a mouthful).  She shared about her inspiration for the books she's written, and her "Daughters of Boston" series.  Book three, "A Passion Denied", in on sale now, and she'll be signing copies at Lifeway Christian Store in Paducah from 11am-1pm tomorrow (Sat. July 25).  Later in the day, she'll be at the Metropolis Public Library (3-5pm), reading from her new book, and giving away some copies, too. Here's our conversation:
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Thursday, July 23rd
Thanks to Tracy Gallagher of the Travel Channel, she spent some time with me on the air.  She talked about a video contest for 6-12 year olds that could win your family a FREE trip to a Camp Hyatt Resort.  Click this link to learn more
Here is my conversation with Tracy Gallagher of the Travel Channel from this morning:

Monday, July 20th - Happy Birthday to Jodi Meder, Jodi Powers, and Lisa Alvey!
Jennie and I had a pretty good weekend - After being told that our house was SKUNK-FREE on Friday night, Colin was at his Mamaw's, so we went out to eat, and then did what every couple does without the kids around:  we went to the grocery!  Excitement!  Then we SLEPT IN on Saturday - WooHoo!  Saturday night we participated in the the Please Don't Feed the DeeJays picnic/comptetion for this week at Noble Park of Paducah....and we WON!   You can watch some video of the obstacle course here.  Sunday was church day, and we had a couple of great services at Milburn Chapel.  The only "downer" of the weekend was the breakdown of our lawnmower on Friday evening, while I was at the WBEL tower site.  We'll see what the repair bill will be....
Please remember to pray for JJ Jasper and his family.  Five year-old Cooper Jasper died Friday night after an accident on an ATV (go-cart or 4 wheeler, I've heard both).  They laid him to rest at 11am today.  May God grant them peace and comfort as they grieve, and as they look forward to a reunion in heaven (Cooper was saved in November 2008).  Thanks for listening & reading.
--Bill

Thursday, July 16 - Happy Birthday to Diana Reuter!!
Well, the Skunk removal guy is coming to look under my house today, I hope he doesn't find any babies.  If he does, I'm not sure what he'll do.  If there are none, he's going to set a trap to catch the skunk that's apparently under my house.  I'll be glad when this is over, I spend the day worrying that our Jack Russell Terrier is going to get sprayed, or that something's gonna die under the house!
Sorry I missed some of our time on the air today, I had to go fix some things at the transmitter site.  At least there's SOMETHING on the air, right?  Have a great day, and watch out for black cats with white stripes!
--Bill

Wednesday, July 15 -
Does anybody have any bright ideas on how to get skunks out from under your house?  OK, specifically, MY HOUSE???
Yup, the bug exterminators came out yesterday, and they found something that's "above their pay grade". a skunk, aimed right at them - you know what I mean.  We have a foundation vent missing, and apparently we have at least one unwelcome tenant.  Wonder if I try to charge them rent, if they'll leave?  Got ideas on how to make them leave?  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
Hope your day isn't too stinky!

Here's my conversation with Janice Stillman about the FARMERS ALMANAC FOR KIDS, VOL.3 - in stores now:

Monday, July 13th -
Maybe it was the homemade ice cream that I ate for dinner last night (yes, that's all I had!), but I feel pretty good today!  I hope you have a wonderful week.  I'm quite busy, we have a Revival at my church (Milburn Chapel in West Paducah) this week.  Maybe we're done with the rain, so the rest of the services can be outside in the tent.  We'll sweat the devil right out of people!

Friday, July 10th -
Thanks once again to Toni Shelton for calling in to update us on the service of recognition for new military recruits, which will be held tomorrow at Cornerstone Church in Marion at noon.  What began as a "going-away party" for her son has now ballooned into a gathering for 100 recruits and their families!  They are in need, however, of donations - specifically, gift cards to restaurants and movie theatres, etc. - to give a gift of appreciation to every recruit as a token of appreciation.  You may drop your donation at Cornerstone Church in Marion after 12:30pm today, and at Lynwood Motors PARTS Department in Paducah, before 5pm today.  For more information, to volunteer or to donate to this event, call Toni Shelton at 618-771-2856 or Jack Shelton at 618-771-2857, or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Thanks for your help, and thanks to Toni & Jack for their heart toward our newest soldiers!

Thursday, July 9th-
Here are the tips I shared this morning from the IRS about deducting job-search expenses on your income taxes:

Many taxpayers spend time during the summer months polishing their resume and attending career fairs.  If you are searching for a job this summer, you may be able to deduct some of your expenses on your tax return.

Here are the top six things the IRS wants you to know about deducting costs related to your job search.

 1. In order to deduct job search costs, the expenses must be spent on a job search in your current occupation. You may not deduct expenses incurred while looking for a job in a new occupation.

 2. You can deduct employment and outplacement agency fees you pay while looking for a job in your present occupation. If your employer pays you back in a later year for employment agency fees, you must include the amount you receive in your gross income up to the amount of your tax benefit in the earlier year.

 3. You can deduct amounts you spend for preparing and mailing copies of a résumé to prospective employers as long as you are looking for a new job in your present occupation. .

 4. If you travel to an area to look for a new job in your present occupation, you may be able to deduct travel expenses to and from the area. You can only deduct the travel expenses if the trip is primarily to look for a new job. The amount of time you spend on personal activity compared to the amount of time you spend looking for work is important in determining whether the trip is primarily personal or is primarily to look for a new job.

 5. You cannot deduct job search expenses if there was a substantial break between the end of your last job and the time you begin looking for a new one.

 6. You cannot deduct job search expenses if you are looking for a job for the first time.

For more information about job search expenses, see IRS Publication 529, Miscellaneous Deductions. This publication is available on the IRS Web site, IRS.gov or by calling 800-TAX-FORM (800-829-3676).

Wednesday, July 8th -
I've had a weird morning!  An interview that fell through, lots of phone calls about all kinds of topics, and the bank down the street got robbed this morning!  What a day so far - and I'm going to a "pool party" this evening.  Haven't been to one of those in a while...it's actually our station staff and our latest competition/dinner in the Please Don't Feed the DeeJays campaign.  Hoping Jennie & I win this one!

Monday, July 6 - Back to the old grind!  I hope you had a great Independence Day weekend!
Thanks to Toni Shelton of Vienna, IL for spending some time with me this morning on the phone (and on the air).  Here is our conversation about the special event she has planned for Saturday at 12 noon in Marion, IL:
Honor & Recognition Send-off Celebration for newly enlisted military recruits - Sat. July 11, 12 noon, with a free picnic & games following.  Approx. 60 new recruits will be honored by family members and the community.  Join them at Cornerstone Church, 9835 Old Bainbridge Trail (across from Heartland Hospital).  For more information, to volunteer or to donate to this event, call Toni Shelton at 618-771-2856 or Jack Shelton at 618-771-2857, or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Thanks!

Thursday, July 2 - Happy Birthday to J. Jackson of Apologetix!
Thanks to Eric Horner, who stopped by the station to talk about his concert, which will be aired tomorrow on WBEL & WGCF at 10:05, during Today's Issues.  It's a Freedom Concert he performed in South Carolina in March 2009.  Here's the conversation we had on the air:

Monday, June 29th - Happy Birthday to Jennie, my wife.  She turned ____ yesterday!
Jennie sent me an email article with a link.  It's an open letter to Kate Gosselin of "Jon & Kate Plus 8".  I read it this morning, here is the link to the letter and all of the comments from readers.

I hope you got your quota of Michael Jackson this weekend.  Jennie & I watched videos all day Saturday.  The man truly was a genius, but like a lot of them, was a bit odd.  His legacy will be celebrated for a long time, but is he in heaven?  I won't know til I get there.

Thursday, June 25th
I've got lots to do today, between on-air stuff, production, errands, lawn mowing, workouts, scheduling car repairs, and Vacation Bible School.  Yikes!  Hope your day isn't a crammed as mine!  I'm pretty sure I'm not really going to be able to fit it all in, but that's what's on my calendar.
It's been fun to see Colin at VBS this week.  When we first go there, he cried, wanting to go to the nursery, which is what he normally does (he's going thru a stage where something different scares him).  Jennie went with him to class, crafts, snacktime, and singing, and he had a good time.  Last night he went right in, and participated.  As a matter of fact, he went down to "pray" Tuesday night, so Jennie went with him.  We didn't want him to think he's too little to go down to pray, even though the only prayer he's given was blessing a meal.  AND, we actually heard him singing (sort of) one of the VBS songs in the living room last night!  I hope the rest of the week's activities stay in his mind as well.

Wednesday, June 24th
I'm a little tired today....after travelling on Monday, my first workday back and VBS at church last night.  whew!   Hoping that God gives me just the right amount of strength to make it thru the day- I'm sure he will...I guess I'm impatient & tired (a great combination!).  As I write this, I'm finished with the on-air time, and have some "managerial" tasks to do - website, contracts, production, blah blah blah.  Aren't you glad you only hear half of my day?  HaHa!  Have a great day, everyone!

Tuesday, June 23rd
I'm back after a long Father's Day weekend.  My sisters and I (along with my wife Jennie and son Colin) flew to Florida to be with my Dad, it's only the second time that all 6 of his kids have been at his house on Father's Day.  We had a houseful of people!  We also celebrated my Dad's 40-year anniversary with my stepmother, Stella.  We had some friends of theirs "drop by" and surprise them Saturday night as we had dinner. Overall, it was a good weekend, and we got home safely- but not without a scare last night on the interstate.  A semi-truck & trailer almost ran us off the highway outside of Nashville!  He changed lanes on top of us, and we had to move toward the median.  Thankfully I was able to keep control of the vehicle, and the truck moved back to his lane so we could get back on the road quickly.  Whew!  The Lord protected us and we are all grateful to Him!  I hope the Lord has protected you this week, and that you are quick to acknowledge it.  Have a great day!

Thursday, June 18th - Happy Birthday to Kevin Wood, he's 44 today!
I had my second workout yesterday, so I have some muscle groups that are a little sore today, but I'll be OK.  I have been pleasantly surprised that EVERY ONE of the "Lean Cuisine" or "Weight Watchers" frozen meals that I've eaten for lunch this week have been VERY GOOD!  I should have known, since Jennie has been eating them for some time.  I've got some yard work to do today, so I'm gonna wait til the very last minute because of the heat!  Whew!  Highs in the upper 90's today.
Be careful out there!

I want to encourage you to call the KY legislative message line today and tell your Representative or State Senator to "OPPOSE ANY EXPANSION OF GAMBLING" in the commonwealth.  The Governor is really making a lot of promises about money for education and other needs by way of gambling proceeds.  Why tempt people and make alot of people lose so that we can use a small percentage of it to help our citizens and students?  How do slot machines at horse tracks help the horse-racing industry to keep jobs?  More bartenders & change-makers, maybe.  But a lot fewer jockeys, trainers, and other employees.  Why pay all of those people when you can plug in a machine?  Nobody has ever been able to explain this to me.  But the horse industry has the jockeys and other folks fooled.  So the job is ours:  we need to CALL the Legislative Message Center and tell our elected officials how to act on our behalf.  Call 800-372-7181 and tell them where you live, and the message you want to send.  It's that simple.  Thanks!

Here is my conversation with Richard Nelson about this issue (we talked on Wednesday morning):

Tuesday, June 16th -
I am not as sore as I expected to be this morning!  I did complete the entire workout at Go Performance and Fitness center yesterday, I only managed to do one of the exercises wrong.  I realized afterwards, so I'll do it right next time.  I figure either way, I still worked that area!
It's raining hard as I type this, looks like I won't be mowing the yard again today.  I'll try tomorrow, I guess.  Tonight we have our first competition of the 8-week "Don't Feed The DeeJays" promotion.  If Jennie and I win the competition, you could win, too.  But you have to sign up as a supporter of the BLUE team at the DFTDJ Blog page.  Do it today, and you might taste sweet victory with us!

Here is my conversation with Dawn Choate of Healing Hannah Ministries from this morning, in 2 parts:

Monday, June 15th -
Well, today is the first OFFICIAL day of the "Please Don't Feed The DeeJays" competition, where our staff (and our wives) try to make a lifestyle change, get healthy, and lose weight in the process.  I'm going to have my first full workout this afternoon, so I expect to be sore tomorrow.  I'm also trying to count calories and eat better.  Jennie and I have recorded a singing promo for the competition, have your heard it?
We would love it if you would sign up as part of our support team, you can win during any part of the 8-week competition just by following our progress.  Here's the link to be part of our team.  Go BLUE team!
Have a great day!

Friday, June 12 -
I've got a busy day, on-air stuff, production, errands, a Bible Study, and Relay for Life tonight in Ballard County!  I hope you can join us at the Ballard Football stadium (in the gym if it rains).
IMPORTANT:  We need fans for the BLUE TEAM in our Don't feed the DJs competition.  Jennie and I are the only team with NO supporters so far.  Can you help us out?  click here to sign up.  If we do well, you can win prizes from WBEL and Go Perfomance & Fitness.  Do it NOW!  (Please?) Thanks,
-Bill

Wednesday, June 10th - Hey, what happened to Tuesday??
Anyway, I hope you are having a great day, I'm glad I can play music and share information for you!
I appreciate Pastor Brad Henson taking the time to stop by and talk about the merging of Four Rivers Church and New Covenant Church into the Four Rivers Covenant Church.  Here's our conversation in two parts:

We've got some "spring cleaning" to do around here today.  Replacing ceiling tiles, vacuuming (after we work on the tiles), and some sorting/straightening up.  Could be an interesting afternoon.  But hey, we have found a set of keys that have been missing for 2 months!  Have a good one!

Monday, June 8th-
Here is more information about the car accident that claimed the lives of 2 children from the Hult Family of Equality, IL last week.   Click this link for the story. A special fund has been set up to help the family wth expenses.  You may send a donation to the Hult Family Fund at Legence Bank, P.O. Friday, June 5th -
It's gonna be a great weekend, Sunny on Saturday, partly cloudy on Sunday.  I hope you have a great weekend!
We're meeting with the people from Go Performance today at noon.  I can honestly say that I have never been in a real GYM, so it's probably going to be intimidating for me.  But I am interested to see what is available.  Our DON'T FEED THE DEEJAYS competition begins June 15th, as Glen & Gina, Gary & Linda, and Jennie & I start getting fit, learning about healthy food choices, and consulting with personal trainers.  We'll be checking in with Shane Rust, ARNP of West McCracken Clinic in West Paducah, KY, and he'll be measuring us each week, weighing us, and making sure we stay healthy while we starve (just kidding).  Look for more details, and a way to sign up to support MY team online.  You could win just by tracking our progress!
God Bless You !   Go to Church!
 Bill

Thursday, June 4 - Happy Birthday to Paul Baloche & Cindy Morgan!
Thanks for listening today, I hope you stay dry in spite of the rain, and I hope that you are able to trust God and praise Him today, even if your circumstances aren't what you hoped for.  God is good, and he is worthy of our worship and our trust!
I was reminded today of the Tiananmen Square massacre, which happened 20 years ago.  I was pretty close to the age of many of those students who protested in China, and I can't imagine what it must be like to NOT be able to express myself in public.  What about you?  The freedom we enjoy is a dream for them, so let's lift them up in prayer, and also pray for the work of missionaries.  What they do is instrumental to showing them what true freedom is, not matter what happens in their country!  Let's thank God for our freedom, too.  It was not free.  Let's honor the memory of those who spoke out and fought for what we enjoy today, and let's thank God for protecting this country.
Here's a video about Tiananmen Square:
Here's another video covering the lack of knowlege of Chinese students of their history:

Wednesday, June 3 -
I spent about 3 hours yesterday mowing, trimming, and spraying around our WBEL transmitter, so I'm patiently waiting until the rash shows up.  I'll be pleasantly surprised if I don't get poison ivy by the weekend.  Linda (our office manager) is already blaming me for anything she gets in the next month!  It seems that everytime I get poison ivy, she gets it too.  According to doctors, "it doesn't spread by contact".  but I've had enough experience to know that's hooey.  However, I don't think Linda would get rashes from me.  I like her, but we don't scratch, hug, or dance that much!
I did manage to throw a rock directly into my eye last evening, with the weed-eater.  OWWWWW!  I am so thankful that I can see today!  I'll have a doctor look at it this afternoon, but I think it's OK.  Just a bruise on my eyelid and a bloodshot spot on my eyeball.  I had been wearing sunglasses, and had taken them off about a minute before this incident. Never again!  Ladies & gentlemen, I've leaned my lesson:  Always were your safety glasses!  Thank you Lord for your protection!

Tuesday, June 2 -
It's a shame about George Tiller.  I don't say that lightly.  I'm praying for his family as they grieve.  He was murdered in the lobby of his church Sunday morning.  In case you don't know, George Tiller was one of the most high-profile abortion doctors in the country.  He also performed late-term (Partial Birth) abortions on a regular basis.  Recently he was acquited of some record-keeping charges, just a couple of months ago, that could have also caused him to lose his medical license.  My preference would be that he be in jail for his crimes against babies and the citizens of Kansas, than in the grave.  Most people who are pro-life would agree with me.  However, his assailant is apparently a radical.  It will be interesting to see how the media portrays this story - Will all white evangelical Christians who own guns be radicals, now?  Will the pro-choice people ramp up the debate on so called "hate crimes"?  We'll see.  It is my prayer that the REAL pro-life movement would get a legitimate chance to express themselves, instead of being portrayed as murderous plotters.  Life is Life, in the womb or anywhere else.

Thursday, May 28
It's a busy day for all of us, our blood drive is today at Concord United Methodist Church.  We hope to see you there - help keep the blood supply ready for ANY emergency, especially during the summer months when there is a lot of travelling.  Can you give blood today?   Here's the requirements:
1.  You must be 17 or older
2.  You must weigh 110 pounds or more
3.  You must not have given blood in the last 56 days.
Total time spent is usually 30 minutes, unless you have to wait for a chair & technician.  Please consider this as part of your afternoon, we would love to see you, and we have free food and door prizes!

Wednesday, May 27 -
I actually got up early today and started (hopefully) a couple of new traditions.  My wife woke me up as she started getting Colin ready to go to daycare at the hospital.  Before they left, I prayed for them and kissed them goodbye.  Then I went walking for about 45 minutes.  I have been perturbed at my poor physical shape, and am starting to do something about it, finally!  I hope that both of these practices will be second nature in a couple of weeks.  The only thing I'm worried about is the sleep I'm gonna lose because of this.  I'm sure the Lord will take care of it, though.
DON'T FORGET OUR BLOOD DRIVE TOMORROW AT CONCORD UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 1-6PM!

Well, it was KRIS who won on American Idol, who-da thunk it?  I'm actually glad the real man won!  He's a good man, a true amateur, married, and involved in lots of mission work.  It will be interesting to follow him in his career.  Adam will be fine, as a matter of fact, 2nd place finishers have done BETTER than the winners at times.  Maybe that's because of the requirements the winner has to fulfill (songs, labels, appearances) that the "non-winner" doesn't.  We'll see how it turns out, but I know that if 100 million people voted, and if only 10% of those people buy a CD, each of them will have sold around 5 million copies.  Wow.
Something else worth mentioning today is that one year ago today, Steven Curtis Chapman's daughter Maria Sue, was tragically struck and killed in the driveway of their home.  Her older brother was driving the car that was involved in this accident.  Please pray for the Chapman family as they will most likely have a tough day as they remember.  However, we can rejoice in how God has brought them through this with  peace and provision. AND, we can celebrate that they will see her again, since she prayed a prayer of salvation just a few weeks before.  For more information, visit Steven's web site.

Who's gonna win IDOL?  Kris or Adam?  (I was actually pulling for Danny...)

and Congrats to Shawn Johnson for winning Dancing with the Stars (I'm surprised!)

Just a thought: Aren't you glad that at the end of the day, your performance isn't VOTED ON, like the folks on these "reality shows" that everyone is talking about. That would be a stressful way to start each day- a vote tally... I suggest that you spend time with people and let them know that you love them- that's better than any vote. I also suggest that God loves YOU like you are, too.  We all need to improve in our relationship with Him, but he ACCEPTS us, because He loves us.  What a wonderful thing to know!
Please listen to my conversation with Scott Thunder about the Bible League, and how you can be involved in getting Bibles into the hands of children around the world.  Then make a gift to help!

I hope that you had a great weekend.  I got a little yard work done, and Jennie and I restocked our pantry & fridge after being out of town for so long.  Had a great worship time at church (good to be back), and connected with some good friends for lunch yesterday.  I hope you had a restful weekend, and a chance to draw closer to God at church, too.
Just in case you hear some strange sounds when we're on the air, there are workers here replacing our roof this week.  We've had some leaks for a while, and the winter storm made it worse, so we're getting rid of our metal roof, and getting a new rubber roof.  WooHoo!  No more buckets when it rains!
BH

Friday, May 15th - Yes, I'm back in the studio, for the second day in a row!
Jennie and I had a wonderful time on the Music Boat Cruise (May 4-8) with TobyMac, Mercy Me, Matthew West, The Katinas, Barlow Girl, and many other artists who performed on board the Monarch of the Seas!  Afterwards, we went to Epcot and Medieval Times, and shopped a little.  On Monday, we got to watch the Space Shuttle launch from Kennedy Space Center!  It's always been a dream of mine to watch a launch, it was awesome!  TV coverage is nothing compared to the real thing!  Hopefully I'll have some pictures and video posted before long.  Have a good weekend!
Thursday, May 14 - Hello?  Remember Me?
Hi, everyone!   I am back from vacation, and glad to be sleeping in my own bed, and on the air again.  Jennie and I left our son Colin with his Mamaw and Papaw while we went to Florida.  That's the first time we've done that (probably the last for awhile, too).  We didn't miss him for the first few days because we were so busy, but on Mother's Day, we walked into Epcot theme park, and they handed Jennie a flower and said, "Happy Mother's Day!"   Gee, thanks....that got the wheels turning.  At least we could call whenever we wanted and check on him.  Colin still doesn't get talking on the phone yet.  He either whispers so that we can't hear him, or he yells "No!" and runs away from the phone.  We were very glad to see him when we got back last night, and everyone is fine now.  GLAD to be home!
Wednesday, April 29th
Well, so far today, I've had a bird in our studio, and I've broken into our storage shed!  Wow!  It's only 10 O'clock!  A nest of birds made their home in the soffitt on the rear of our building (some trim came down in the winter storm), and apparently they can wander around the suspended ceiling.  That will make it interesting the next time we replace some tiles....anyway, a bird was flying around this morning in my office, so we blocked off the rest of the building so it could only go outside.  It worked!  whew!  We also have apparently lost the key to our storage shed, so I had to break into it today, so we could get some things out.  Can you say unusual ?  Looking forward to the rest of the day, now!  Ha

Monday, April 27- Glad to be back on the air today!
I'm also glad to be sleeping in my own bed, with my own pillow.  But most of all, I'm glad to be at home with my little boy (I didn't see him for a week!) and to worship with my church family.
I shared a little bit this morning about the warnings that the Center for Disease Control has issued about the Swine Flu that has been reported in several areas of the USA. For even more information, click here.
It's not a cause for panic, just something to keep in mind.  Don't want to catch it?  Wash your hands, cover your mouth, don't put your hands in your eyes, mouth, or nose....You know, all the things mom & grandma taught you.
Thanks to Rick Dickey for joining me this morning on the air!

APRIL 24- I have learned a lot at GMA this week, and I saw lots of great music & ministry!
Now, I just have to put all that I've learned into practice, while we're still doing all of the other things that we do.  One thing that I can say beyond a shadown of a doubt is that all of the artists that I've met and talked with have been very humble.  Their hearts are definitely in the right place!  I want to encourage you to check out the Dove Awards on the Gospel Music Channel, but when you do, remember that this is like prom or a wedding - Everyone gets dressed up, looks great, compliments each other, etc.  Then they go home and change diapers, do laundry, and take out the trash. They are just like us!  Their gift is music, and they use it.  What is your gift?  I encourage you to use it today, in between all of your chores at home!  Thanks for letting me share these videos and pictures with you - more are coming in the next couple of days.

Tuesday, April 14th
I hope you have a wonderful day, and that you're able to apply God's word to your life today.  I was impressed with my scripture this morning at the beginning of my airshift, it said that "a fool's lips bring him strife, and his mouth invites a beating" (Prov. 18:6).  Wow!  I think I can say, "Been there, done that!"  We've all probably said "I wish I could take that back!"   I know that I have!  The passage of scripture also says that "A fool's mouth is his undoing, and his lips are a snare to his soul."  Notice that last word.....that will make you think about what you say, won't it?  Yikes!

Friday, April 10th -
Today is Good Friday, the day when Christians around the world remember the obedience and sacrifice of Jesus, who diied to save us for our sins.  Our church is actully having a Eulogy Service- we will read an obituary of Jesus Christ, and then have 3 biblical characters give a eulogy of Him.  After that, three members of our church will give their testimonies, and then we will take communion together.  I'm looking forward to seeing all of this, I'll let you know how it goes!  Have a wonderful Resurrection weekend!

Thursday, April 9th -
Today is Maundy Thursday, a Christian day of remembrance, focusing on 4 events:  Jesus washing the Disciples' feet, The Last Supper and the institution of Communion, the agony of Jesus in the Garden, and Christ's betrayal by Judas Iscariot.  It is a day of reflection upon the servanthood of Jesus, the eternal benefits to the church of his sacrifice, and the desire that Christ's followers "be one".  In your busy day, I hope that you take a moment to consider these things, and express your gratitude to God for the gift of His son, who was obedient through it all.
It's also National Cherish An Antique Day, National Chinese Almond Cookie Day, National Former Prisoner of War Day, and National Alcohol Screening Day.
Happy Birthday to Actor Dennis Quaid; singers Jesse McCartney, Hal Ketchum and Margo Smith; Actresses Keisha Knight-Pulliam, Michael Learned and Cynthia Nixon; Model Paulina Porizkova, and Golfer Seve Ballesteros.  If it's your birthday, today, I hope you have a good one!

Thanks for listening, we're glad to be back on the air!   Our problems are still not completely fixed (at our transmitter site) but at least we're broadcasting.  Thanks to our engineers for their hard work.
Also, thanks to Lauren Thomas of Calvert City, for visiting us today.  She's a student at Marshall County High School, and is interested in radio.  It was fun sharing the microphones with her today.
Friday, April 3rd - Happy Birthday to Joseph Durham -tomorrow!
Today is Armenian Appreciation Day, American Circus Day, National Chocolate Mousse Day, and National Find A Rainbow Day.  It's also Tweed Day - a day to consider the cost of political corruption.  It's always on the birthday of William March Tweed, the New York City political boss whose "Tweed Ring" stole millions from city in the 1800's.
Historical Factoid- Today is the day that the Red Sea was parted to allow the Israelites to escape Egypt.
Happy Birthday to Comedian Eddie Murphy; Actors David Hyde Pierce & Alec Baldwin; Skier Picabo Street; Singers Tony Orlando & Wayne Newton;  Actress Jenny Garth & Amanda Bynes; Singer-Actress Doris Day; Christian artist birthday - Drew Shirley of Switchfoot
Well, my wife is not working this weekend, and we don't have a lot planned, other than a DATE tonight!  Tomorrow is wide open, but I may have to do some yard work. Springtime is here!  I don't mind the work, actually, I need to get in a little better shape...Anyway, I had fun this week playing great music and giving away free stuff!   More fun coming on Monday, so join me then.  Have a great weekend!

Wednesday, April 1st - Happy April Fool's Day (I guess..)
Did you hear our "News story" about the church potluck with no meat, and all greenbean casserole?
We had fun doing this, and we hope you get a laugh from it!
Thanks to Debbie Bell of Child Watch - she came in to the studio to talk about Child Abuse Prevention Month.  It's a subject that nobody really likes to talk about, but we MUST!  Here's our conversation-
